ππ₯ BREAKING: PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL IS COMING TO COLORADO SPRINGS! π₯π
Colorado Springs is officially getting its own professional football team.
The United Football League (UFL) announced today, September 23, that Colorado Springs will join the league beginning with the 2027 spring football season.
And they won’t be playing up in Denver.
ποΈ They’ll be playing right here in Colorado Springs at Weidner Field.
π WHEN DOES IT START?
The new Colorado Springs team’s first home game is already scheduled:
π
Sunday, April 11, 2027
β° 1:00 PM Mountain Time
ποΈ Weidner Field β Downtown Colorado Springs
πΊ Nationally televised on ABC
The UFL season begins March 26, with the championship β the United Bowl β normally taking place in June. Recent UFL schedules have featured 10 regular-season games, generally five at home and five on the road.
π€ WHAT WILL OUR TEAM BE CALLED?
That’s still a secret.
The team name, colors, logo and complete brand identity will officially be revealed during a public celebration at Weidner Field on:
π October 25
Season-ticket deposits will also be available, and the event is expected to introduce the team’s coach.
So now comes the fun part…
What should a Colorado Springs football team be called?
Pikes Peak?
Mountaineers?
Something military related?
Something completely different?
Let’s hear some ideas. π
ποΈ FOOTBALL AT WEIDNER FIELD
The team will share downtown’s Weidner Field with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
And here’s something pretty cool about playing football in Colorado Springs:
Weidner Field sits approximately 6,035 feet above sea level β more than 750 feet higher than Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.
That means when Colorado Springs begins UFL play, Weidner Field is expected to become the highest-elevation home stadium for a professional football team.
Talk about a home-field advantage.
Welcome to Colorado Springs.
Hope you brought some oxygen. πποΈπ
π° WHAT ABOUT TICKET PRICES?
This might be one of the most interesting parts.
UFL co-owner Mike Repole says the league wants Colorado Springs games to be affordable and accessible for families.
He told The Gazette that they’re looking at an average ticket price of potentially around $20, while emphasizing that final ticket details are still to come.
The league also plans to get involved with local youth sports, schools, businesses and the community rather than simply showing up for five football games and leaving town.
π WHAT EXACTLY IS THE UFL?
If you haven’t followed spring football, the United Football League was formed in 2024 through the merger of the modern XFL and USFL.
It’s professional American football played during the spring, giving players another opportunity to continue their careers and potentially earn another shot at the NFL.
And that pipeline is real.
As of Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season, 44 former UFL players were on NFL active rosters or practice squads, including several associated with the Denver Broncos.
The UFL also uses some rules that are different from the NFL, including multiple conversion options after touchdowns, which can keep teams within striking distance late in games.
WHY COLORADO SPRINGS?
Colorado Springs already has a huge sports and military identity.
We’re home to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, Air Force Academy, Colorado College, UCCS and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, along with numerous national sports organizations.
UFL leadership says it evaluated multiple markets before selecting Colorado Springs.
Mayor Yemi Mobolade called bringing professional football here a “vote of confidence” in Colorado Springs and downtown development, saying the team will give Southern Colorado professional football of its own while putting the city before a national television audience.
π THE UFL IS EXPANDING
Colorado Springs isn’t the only new market.
Colorado and Rhode Island join in 2027.
Then Utah and Oklahoma are scheduled to join in 2028, when the UFL plans to expand to 10 teams.
But for Southern Colorado, the big news is simple:
π WE’RE GETTING PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL.
ποΈ At 6,000+ feet.
ποΈ Downtown at Weidner Field.
πΊ On national television.
π Starting in spring 2027.
Now we just need a name, logo, colors, coach and roster.
π COLORADO SPRINGS β ARE YOU GOING TO A GAME?
And more importantly…
WHAT SHOULD WE NAME THIS TEAM?
